The countdown is on, the 2008 College Football Season begins in Just Two Months…

While I have been holding out for months in hopes that Dish Network will finally pick up the .mtn, it looks like that’s not going to happen this season. It looks like I’m going to have to switch to DirecTV and, the timing looks pretty good for that one.

Direct TV has a pretty sweet promotion where not only can you get free set up, but free DVR service for 4 months (a must have for the college football fan). Plus, college football fans in the mountain west conference regions, Salt Lake City Utah metro, Provo Orem Utah Metro, Wyoming, Colorado, San Diego, and Albuquerque New Mexico, can get The Direct TV total choice programming (which includes the Mountain) for just $29.99 for the first year. That’s going to be a lot cheaper than Dish Network Service, and Comcast Cable, and will most likely give you a greater selection of channels and programming.

Special online offers from DIRECTV

So for all you BYU, University of Utah, University of Wyoming, Air Force, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, and TCU fans…. Just make the switch and enjoy all the Mountain West Conference Football Games again.

DIRECTV Adds ESPN News HD, The Disney Channel, and Toon Disney to its High Def lineup April 8, 2008

Direct TV is continually striving too be the market leader in High Definition television again. To their high definition line up they have added ESPN News HD, The Disney Channel HD, and even Toon Disney HD. Obviously they have the bandwidth too add these channels to high definition, because in my opinion, they aren’t the most HD worthy.

The ESPN news channel makes some sense as occasionally live sporting events are aired on the all sports news network. Sports highlights also deserve HD quality. But for the most part you get a close up high definition picture of people sitting at sports center desks. Great if you’re looking for facial blemishes, but personally I’m not into it. Go Direct TV. Now the other two HD channels just make me sick.

The Disney Channel does actually play some real Television, but the cheesy, corny Disney programing makes me sick in regular definition. Now Toon Disney, just the name of it doesn’t make a lot of high definition sense, it only plays Cartoons! How outstanding can HD picture of cartoons really get? That’s all I have to say about that. Go Direct TV, wait to get more channels in high def, it shows they are on top of things.

As an avid BYU sports fan this is music to my ears. The Mountain West Conference created an interesting TV deal a few years ago with a new channel, the .MTN, where virtually every major sporting event from the participating schools: BYU, UTAH, TCU, Wyoming, Colorado State, New Mexico, Air Force, UNLV, and San Diego State would air. It also presented a platform for many of the less popular, and womens sports to get television coverage. Great idea right? The only problem was that this channel had no exposure. One of the half owners was Comcast Cable, and they apparently wanted to backlash some of the huge damages done to them by the Satellite Companies over the years. Sure Comcast is the largest Cable Company in the US, but its coverage can only be obtained in areas where comcast provides service. Comcast was sluggish in working out a deal with the satellite providers, and this made many of the sports fans furious. After two seasons, Direct TV finally announced that they have made arrangements with the .mtn to add the channel to one of their lineups beginning at the 2008 football season.
